WebThe Binghamton Youth Symphony is one of the oldest such organizations in the United States. It was organized in 1961 to promote and enrich the musical education of young people in the Southern Tier of New York and the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania. Young musicians from more than twenty school districts comprise the orchestras. WebWhile a young student, Janis absorbed many opportunities to play with the Binghamton Philharmonic and Summer Savoyards, she was principal cellist of the Binghamton Youth Symphony, and first violin in a “gigging” student busking quartet. As she transitioned to college, she was the winner of multiple music scholarship competitions.
